1. What is digital marketing?

Digital marketing is any kind of marketing that is geared towards smartphones, laptops, tablets, and basically, any other device that is capable of connecting to Wi-Fi. Traditional marketing will focus on radio, TV, print, and film, whereas when it comes to digital marketing I want to be thinking about apps, websites, blogs, social media, email, and online content.

2. What's a digital marketing agency?

A digital marketing manager/agency is a business (like me!) that assists other companies with their online marketing efforts. Agencies can be as involved as the client would like. For some of my clients, I handle all digital projects but for others, I only provide ideas and recommendations through consulting. My goal is to be an extension of my client's teams and support internal marketing teams with specialized digital services.

3. What's the difference between B2B and B2C digital marketing?

B2B stands for Business-to-Business. This type of marketing refers to businesses that sell products or services to other businesses. For example, at RT Digital Studio I work with other businesses to produce stellar digital marketing campaigns. B2C stands for Business-to-Consumer or businesses that sell their products or services to individual consumers. While all facets of digital marketing can apply to both B2B and B2C, the strategy will differ.

4. What goes into digital marketing?

There are a variety of tactics that make up digital marketing. At RT Digital Studio, my digital experts tackle:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Display Advertising

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

Content Marketing

Email Marketing

Social Media Management

User Experience (UX) Testing

Research

Not every business will benefit from each type of digital marketing, so it is essential to think about your audience. That being said, one area of digital I think every business should take advantage of is performance reporting. Whether you’re doing SEO, content marketing, SEM, or social media, you can’t make data-driven decisions if you’re not analyzing the metrics.

5. What is the purpose of digital marketing, and how can digital marketing help my business?

Do you have an audience that spends time online? Nowadays, the answer is yes for just about every business. Digital marketing will help you reach your target audience online and drive valuable conversions. Digital marketing is so versatile, that it can be tailored to suit just about any brand!

6. Can digital marketing increase online sales?

Absolutely! The goal of digital marketing is to improve website traffic and online conversions, thus helping you reach your overall business goals. If you’d like to ultimately increase online sales, I would recommend a variety of tactics to reach this goal. These may range from UX research and conversion rate optimization to advanced product schema to social media. When I'm developing a campaign for a client, I get to know their business and objectives, and then propose plans to align with those goals.

7. What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation is the practice of using on-page and off-page tweaks and tactics to ensure that your page ranks higher on search engines. An example of one of these tactics is making sure that this blog is a minimum of 1000 words because that’s what Google prefers.

8. What are keywords?

Keywords are the words and phrases that searchers use- usually on a search engine. These are the words that I use when looking for pages, images, videos, blogs, or any kind of information or content on the web really. These keywords need to be strategically inserted into your pages and content.

How often should I update my website?

A website that sits stagnant for long periods of time, without any new or fresh content, is nothing more than an online brochure for your company. A successful website will interact with consumers and provide new and up-to-date information and content. Also, in terms of SEO, Google prefers a website that is consistently updated. There’s no specific time limit on updating your website, just make sure it stays relevant.

9. What is inbound marketing?

Inbound Marketing is a term that was invented by HubSpot. Here’s what they have to say about it:

“Inbound marketing is a business methodology that attracts customers by creating valuable content and experiences tailored to them. While outbound marketing interrupts your audience with content they don’t want, inbound marketing forms connections they’re looking for and solves problems they already have”

Outbound marketing is the Television advert that interrupts your TV show regardless of who you are and what your needs are. By contrast, inbound marketing is the helpful “How To” blog that you found through your own organic Google search.

10. Which social media channels should my business be using?

Firstly, you should be focusing on the social media platforms with the most active users. These are (in order), Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Next, you need to determine where your target audience spends their time and educate yourself on the demographic. What are their behavioral patterns? What kind of content do they prefer? How does social media influence them as a consumer?

11. What is PPC?

Pay-per-click, also known as CPC which is Cost-Per-Click, is an advertising model on the internet in which an advertiser pays a sum of money to the publishers when someone clicks on the link for that ad. In other words, it is a way of buying visits to the website rather than earning visits organically.

One of the popular forms of advertising on the internet is search engine advertising. In this, advertisers bid on search terms such as “PPC advertising”, that are relevant to their marketing business.

When I am talking about content sites, they charge a fixed price rather than bidding, and when I am talking about search engines, they use a bidding system for ads.

PPC is also known as banner ads that are shown on websites with relevant content.

12. What is pay-per-click marketing/advertising?

Pay-per-click is commonly known as PPC in the marketing world. It is an internet advertising model in which an advertiser pays a sum of money every time their ads are clicked. In other words, it is a way of buying visits to a website rather than earning visits organically.

One of the famous forms of advertising on the internet is search engine advertising. It allows advertisers to bid for the placement of the ad in a search engine’s sponsored links. When someone starts a search using relevant keywords that are related to the advertisement, then that sponsored link is shown at the top of the search results.

For example, if I search for “PPC agency”, my sponsored link might show up on the Google search results page.

13. Why does pay-per-click advertising work?

Pay-per-click works well for those businesses that wish to expand or want to be highlighted in the market and want to bring relevant customers for their products and services.

For this, first, you will have to analyze whether your services and products need to be advertised or not.

If you feel there is a need, then you can create an ad campaign for your business, but in order to appear in the search engine result page (which is commonly known as SERP) on the top 10 positions, you can’t just pay more to the advertisers to ensure that your ad would appear more prominently than your competitors.

Instead, ads are subject to an ad auction which is an automated process, that is running on every search engine to determine the validity and relevance of your ads.
